The illegal limit in the uk is 1.6mm from the centre of the tyre.

Tyre experts have all agreed that when a tyre is below 2mm its peformance deteriorates dramatically ( especially in wet conditions ).

It is not only unsafe to ignore the minimum tyre tread depth, its against the law. There are three vital points that you need to know not only for your safety but to keep you legal.

If you are involved in an accident and have any tyre's below the legal requirement, your insurance may become void. For each tyre that is illegal the police have the authority to penalise you 3 points on your license. The police are in their rights also to fine you up to £2,500 for each illegal tyre that is on your vehicle.
